We’re excited to announce that we've successfully completed interoperability testing with FusionPBX, a popular web front-end to FreeSWITCH, the legendary cross-platform scalable (and free) multi-protocol softswitch.
In simple terms, FusionPBX is to FreeSwitch as FreePBX is to Asterisk - in other words it’s FreeSWITCH for mere mortals. FreeSWITCH is a powerful and scalable voice switch used by many of the world’s leading telecommunications service providers and a large percentage of businesses worldwide, but it has a pretty steep learning curve and can take weeks, if not months to master.
FusionPBX adds extra functionality to the FreeSwitch platform while making it easy to administer via an attractive and powerful GUI interface for users and tenants. It can run in varied hardware and software environments, offering the versatility that all businesses require and, in particular, delivering corporate-level phone features to smaller businesses. The impressive list of FusionPBX features includes: unlimited extensions, voicemail-to-email, music on hold, call parking, call center, call queues, phone provisioning and many other features over SIP trunks, T1/E1 (ISDN) circuits and even those old-fashioned analog lines that still lurk in the telco closet. It also happens to be an Open Source project with a large global community of contributors!
FusionPBX includes a completely native, fully integrated fax server that supports T.38 and can be used to send and receive faxes directly. It can also mediate SIP calls in passthrough mode, where it bridges the connection between some T.38-compatible endpoint (such as an ATA) and the upstream carrier and basically just shuttles T.38 messages back and forth without interfering. As always, the challenge to achieving successful Fax over IP (FoIP) is finding a SIP trunk vendor that offers reliable T.38. Luckily, faxing over our Power-T.38 SIP trunks is just as reliable as doing it over traditional (TDM or POTS) phone lines.
